About

I am an independent creative technologist and educator with a background in interaction design (Utrecht School of Arts, MA). I am based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

As a creative technologist with over 15 years experience I have worked in the fields of art, design, culture, entertainment and product development on projects involving exciting technical challenges and unique ensembles of technology needing to be woven together into cohesive and meaningful user experiences. I enjoy the challenge and satisfaction of getting things to work together and one of my favorite starting points is when a client asks “say, would it be possible if….?”.

Technically, my first encounter with interactivity was through Flash’s ActionScript back in the day. Oh how I loved ActionScript but the platform had its limits when applied to physical experiences. Amongst others I have worked with Processing (Java), Arduino (C/C++), NodeJS (Javascript/HTML5) and Unity (C#/Shaders) which I use mostly these days. On the phsyical computing side I have become self-taught in working with electronics and Arduino-based microcontroller development. On the fabrication side am well-familiar with 3d printing and CAD-based 3d-modelling (Fusion360) and pcb design (KiCad) to support protoype development cycles.

As a user experience designer I love observing how people interact with technology. To me there’s magic in observing how people do or do not understand a work. I adore user tests as they are the true measure of a product’s real potential. The process of imagining, developing, testing and relearning pleases me enormously and sharing this process with a team of passionate individuals even more so.

As an educator I have 10+ years experience working with students and developing educational programs, which I have always done in a part-time capacity. I first taught human-centered design at a computer science faculty (HvA, Amsterdam) and the past 5+ years very happily as a design/technology teacher at Interaction/Media/Design (KABK, The Hague). I work wth a lovely team and it’s a pleasure and a privelige to guide the artist/designer hybrid identity that our students develop into.

I’m open for new projects and always interested to expand my network.
